What is happening in Morro Bay? We recently had an election in which Jamie Irons was elected mayor. Why should we have an expensive and unnecessary recall election when a scheduled election is just over a year away?
What appears to be happening is a few former movers and shakers want to change the composition of the city council rather than wait until the regularly scheduled election. Why?
In short, a special election usually generates fewer votes than a regular election and an active turnout of the recall vote can improve the chance for a successful recall.
Another issue that the special interest group wants to gain control over is the sewer plant issue. A majority of the present City Council wants to rebuild the present sewer plant in a new location following the suggestions of the state Coastal Commission. The recall group wants to force Morro Bay and Cayucos to rebuild the sewer plant at its present coastal site.
Clearly, the recall group has an agenda that is not in the best interest of the community, and I hope you will let them know.
