I see that one of the grounds proposed for recalling Morro Bays mayor is that he supported fee increases and taxes. The proponents of a recall need to check their facts.
All five council members, including George Leage and Nancy Johnson, discussed and expressed tepid interest in looking at a sales tax increase to fund infrastructure improvements. Three members of the council criticized staff for overreaching the councils direction in the staff report to include tax options it had never asked to consider, making it look like the council was considering any way it could to raise taxes.
The building fee issue is just false. During the economic downturn, the council temporarily rolled back some developer impact fees that fund infrastructure. The vote was to restore the fees now that the economic climate is improving. Its all on video. Dont be fooled.
