Prep Football Roundup: Collins helps Morro Bay to win over Nipomo

Collins rushes for 219 yards as Morro Bay tops Nipomo 28-21 to even record at 3-3 overall, 1-1 in LPL; elsewhere, Templeton beats Santa Maria

Tristan Collins ran for 219 yards for the Morro Bay High football team as it beat Nipomo 28-21 Friday night in Morro Bay. 

The Pirates (3-3, 1-1 Los Padres League) jumped to a 15-0 lead in the second quarter, until Nipomo’s Nick Kimball caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Matt Albright and a two-point conversion to cut the lead to 15-8. 

The Pirates regained the momentum when Dan Beavers intercepted Albright and returned it 77 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter right before the half ended. 

Albright threw two interceptions, and the Titans (2-4, 1-1) fumbled once. 

Templeton 13, Santa Maria 6

Templeton (1-5, 1-1 LPL) got its first win of the season, scoring 13 points in the first quarter on a touchdown pass from Clay Villars to Justin Olivares and a 95-yard fumble return by Bryce Messer. 

Santa Maria (1-5, 0-2) scored its only touchdown on an option keeper in the fourth.
