Cuesta Roundup: Cuesta men finish fifth at conference cross country meet

The Cuesta College men finished fourth out of 12 teams with 104 points at the Western State Conference cross country preview in Ventura, led by Chris Pavlakovich, who finished the four-mile race in 11th place in 23:18.

College of the Canyons’ Rodrigo Ornelas won the race in 22:12.

Nick Landy was 16th for Cuesta in 23:31, followed by teammate Alex Hascall in 17th place in 23:36.

Lauren Silacci finished the 5K women’s course in 22:00 for fifth place to help Cuesta to a sixth-place finish out of 12 teams with 140. Moorpark’s Rachel Naumann won the race in 20:30.

Samantha Phillips was eighth for the Cougars in 22:12, and Maggie Phillips was 19th in 23:04.

The host Cougars (14-3) split two games, overcoming a 5-1 deficit to beat Long Beach 12-9 and losing 4-3 to Santa Rosa in their lowest-scoring game of the season. 

Rachel Gruetzmacher had five goals on the day, and Gabrielle Zimmerman had eight saves in goal for the Cougars.
