America’s Cup

Los OsosOctober 4, 2013

Thank you for printing some news of America’s Cup. I believe there is more interest locally than you think. The cup race has always been a rich man’s sport, but this year, it became less a regatta than a carnival — thanks, in my opinion, to the influence of the Oracle group.

The high-tech catamarans have impressive speed but lack the grandeur, beauty and seamanship of traditional boats. Because of the acceleration and speed, the race all too often went to the boat with the best start — and the startline geometry deliberately introduced a bias.

For people who love sailboats, I recommend going to YouTube and searching “J class.”
