Watercolor artist Gary Miyamoto to offer demonstration Sunday

Watercolorist Gary Miyamoto will demonstrate at an Allied Arts Association Art Forum set for 2 p.m. Sunday in Conference Room 1 at the Cambria Center for the Arts, 1350 Main St.

Miyamoto’s paintings are done with loose, limited brushstrokes and color, a far cry from the tight, precise drawing he studied for his Cal Poly architectural degree.

He says the gateway to his watercolor style came with a birthday present: attendance at a John Barnard workshop. Miyamoto said he “was inspired to try to use painting as an expression of feelings and design.” He also attended workshops with Henry Fukuhara and Tom Fong, both important California watercolor teachers.

The demonstration is free for Allied Arts members; a $2 donation is requested from nonmembers. All are welcome to attend.
