Pope Francis brings a breath of fresh air to Catholicism after years of small-minded focusing on church doctrine. Church leadership that focuses on compassion over condemnation demonstrates the primary directive of Christianity walking in His footsteps.
I sincerely hope that the American bishops will follow Pope Francis as humbly as they would have their congregations follow them. The American bishops could begin by issuing a public apology to the group of American nuns that they criticized for back-seating church doctrine to their social justice work through caring for the poor.
The moral edifice of the church will fall like a house of cards as long as the church leaders continue to set an example of pulling the splinters from their brothers and sisters eyes, before removing the log from their own eyes. What are the psychological needs of those who practice condemnation?
