Last stand?

Arroyo GrandeSeptember 30, 2013

The Monty Python wing of the Republican Party is once again threatening to shut down the government and/or default on our debt if they are unable to defund Obamacare. Such radical zealotry controlling a major political party is never a good thing.

While Republican zealots have perfected the dark art of relentlessly throwing sticks and stones into the wheels of a government (and a president) they wish did not exist, they remain hopelessly behind the curve on social issues and now make their (last?) stand by staring blindly into a cataclysmic economic abyss and daring the country to jump in with them.

This petulant act of irresponsibility masks their lack of reasonable alternatives, while exposing the veins of racism, sexism and homophobia that run deep in the party.

The GOP mentality — that rich people are being punished by high taxes; poor people have a sweet ride; science, education and intellect are to be viewed with suspicion; voting should be more difficult; prisons should be run for profit; guns are good and contraception is bad — has now given birth to a treasonous monster that threatens to undermine the very foundations of our democracy.
