Mustangs see five-match winning streak end on road

Cole Chapleski and Zach Bolden scored second-half goals to lead Denver’s men’s soccer team to a 2-1 home win over Cal Poly on Sunday night.

Chapleski scored unassisted in the 54th minute, and Bolden scored from 5 yards off an assist from Reagan Dunk to help the Pioneers (4-3-2) halt a five-match winning streak for the Mustangs (7-3-0).

Santa Clara 4, Cal Poly 0

Allie Vernon, Brittany Ambrose, Morgan Marlborough and Jordan Jesolva scored one goal each to power the 20th-ranked Broncos (6-3-1) to a home win over the Mustangs (4-6-0).

Santa Clara outshot Cal Poly 20-4, including a 10-2 margin in shots on goal. The Mustangs ended nonconference play on a six-match losing streak.


Cal Poly won three of four matches on the final day of the Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State.

Cal Poly’s Marco Comuzzo downed Pacific’s Alex Hamilton 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth and final round.

In the fourth round of round-robin play, Cal Poly’s Devin Barber and Ben Donovan earned victories. Barber won 6-3, 6-3 over Pacific’s Erik Spence, and Donovan beat Fresno State’s Nikolas Papic, 7-6, 6-1.
