San Luis Obispo man sings on 'X Factor' TV show

A San Luis Obispo man made quite an impression on Thursday night's episode of "The X Factor" — though probably not the one he was going for.

"It was like something out of a lunatic asylum," Simon Cowell told Neal Macomber after his audition on the reality TV singing competition.

Macomber, a 45-year-old contractor, sang "Everybody Talks" by Neon Trees for judges Cowell, Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio and Demi Lovato — whom he serenaded, much to her apparent horror.

"If this was a movie," Cowell continued, "this would be like 'Nightmare on Elm Street.'"

Still, the decision was unanimous: Macomber was sent home.
