Mackenzie Pridham had a hat trick to lead the Cal Poly men’s soccer team to a 5-1 road win over Air Force on Friday night.
Chase Minter scored in the first minute for the Mustangs, and Pridham scored his first goal of the game 10 minutes later.
Air Force (0-8) cut the deficit in half three minutes later on a goal by Zachary Modly.
Pridham scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to give the Mustangs (7-2) a 4-1 lead. Ari Lassiter scored a few minutes later to conclude the scoring.
Wade Hamilton made four saves in goal for Cal Poly.
Cal Poly 3, UC Irvine 0
The Mustangs opened Big West play with a home sweep of the Anteaters, 25-22, 25-18, 25-11.
Chelsea Hardin led Cal Poly (7-7, 1-0) with 14 kills, Megan McConnell had 12 kills and Taylor Gruenewald had seven.
Maddie Kuber had 33 assists and 11 digs, and Steffi Sooter led the Mustangs with 12 digs. Jennifer Keddy had four aces.
Cuesta 3, Reedley 1
Riley Cooks had 12 kills and 15 digs to lead the visiting Cougars to a 24-26, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 win.
Cami Mauricio had 10 kills and 10 digs for Cuesta (5-3) in the nonleague match. Whitney Meyer added eight kills, 19 digs and five aces.
St. Mary’s 2, Cal Poly 1
The Mustangs outshot the Gaels 16-7, and Elise Krieghoff scored her 11th goal of the season, but Cal Poly fell on the road.
Briana Campos scored on a header in the opening minutes of the nonconference game to give St. Mary’s (4-7) the lead.
Krieghoff scored the equalizer for the Mustangs (4-5) 10 minutes later off an assist from Jordyn Zander on a shot from 12 yards out.
St. Mary’s scored the winning goal midway through the second half on a free kick by Casidee Lynch.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Cuesta College (6-2) beat West Valley 13-10 and San Mateo 12-7 in the tournament.
Rachel Gruetzmacher had four goals, and Bri Fleming had three goals against West Valley. Paige Holt made 15 saves as an injury replacement goalie.
Against San Mateo, Fleming had three goals, and Gruetzmacher and Haley Schafer had two goals.
The Cougars play Diablo Valley and Modesto today.
Cal Poly at Bulldog Classic
Three Mustangs went undefeated in singles play and advanced to the quarterfinals at the Fresno State tennis tournament.
Marco Comuzzo beat Pacific’s Eric Cedarwall 6-3, 7-5, Ben Donovan beat Adrien Varenne of Fresno City College 6-2, 6-0, and Derek Klein won 7-5, 6-0 against Alec Bessinger, also from Fresno City College.
The doubles team of Donovan and Corey Pang will play in today’s championship after winning all three of their matches.
