A state of war

CambriaSeptember 25, 2013

I wanted to thank The Tribune for the Perspective that ran Sept. 21: “Another insult to the poor.”

I know how little individuals get when they are on food stamps. Many politicians have portrayed such individuals as taking unnecessarily from the government. My friend was making about $600 per month and was eligible for $8 in food stamps. Yes, let’s cut her benefits; imagine living on a food budget of $8 per day, let alone a month. I leave you with this quote from William Morris: “A society based on cash and self-interest is not a society at all, but a state of war.”

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
