Prep Roundup: Templeton downs Morro Bay in girls volleyball

Arroyo Grande, Paso Robles win in PAC 7 girls volleyball

The Templeton High girls volleyball team topped Morro Bay 11-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 15-9 in a Los Padres league match Tuesday.

Autumn Russell led the Eagles (2-0 LPL) with 22 kills and four aces, and Marissa Torres 24 digs. 

Cece Mazzarotto led Templeton with 21 assists and four aces, followed by Josi Kelley with 19 assists, and outside hitter Mari Stewart had 12 kills. 

Sybella Paredes led the Pirates (1-1 LPL) with 24 digs, 11 kills, six blocks and two aces. Sierra Emrick had 19 kills, nine blocks and two aces, and Dani Donaldson had 19 assists.

“I was very impressed with Morro Bay’s passing and digging,” Templeton coach Jody Kelly said. “Their defense was really good. Morro Bay came to play, worked real hard and caught us off-guard, for sure.”

Arroyo Grande 3, Righetti 1

Megan McGuigan and Ashlyn Herlihy each had 19 kills as the Eagles edged the Warriors 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15 in a PAC 7 match.

McGuigan also had two aces and two blocks, and Juju Fuller had 14 digs and five aces. Alaina Hogeboom had 48 assists for Arroyo Grande (6-6, 2-0 PAC 7).

Paso Robles 3, Pioneer Valley 0

The Bearcats swept the Panthers 25-13, 25-17, 25-15 in a PAC 7 match. 

Morgan Lawson led Paso Robles (8-4, 1-1 PAC 7) with 10 kills, eight aces and three digs. 

Kailey Warren had seven kills and two aces, and Maddi Chace had 10 kills for the Bearcats. 

Mission Prep 3, Carpinteria 0

The Royals won 25-15, 25-7, 25-11 on the road  as Noelle Laird had 19 digs and seven kills.

Samantha Fernandez had 21 assists, and Sammi Atwall had 10 digs for Mission Prep (6-2).

North County Christian 3, Orcutt Academy 0

Gabrielle Morrison had 11 aces and 16 assists to lead the Crusaders to a 25-16, 

25-22, 25-14 win over the Spartans.

Aliyah Morrison had 10 kills, Kelsie McRoy had eight kills, and Madison Morrison had 12 digs for North County Christian (5-5-3).

Coast Union 3, Shandon 0

The Broncos topped the Outlaws 25-12, 25-11, 25-8.

Xue DiMaggio led Coast Union (1-1 Coast Valley League) with five kills and five digs. Sage Radecki had 24 assists and nine aces, and Ali Brunschwiler had eight aces and four kills. 

Coastal Christian 3, Maricopa 0

Isabelle Unger had 28 digs, four kills and three aces as the Conquerors swept the Indians 25-19, 25-12, 25-15.

Bethany Young had 14 digs, 10 kills and seven aces for Coastal Christian (3-0 CVL), and Roni Garrison had 25 digs, five kills, five aces and two blocks. 

GIRLS TENNIS

San Luis Obispo 15, Paso Robles 3

The Tigers won all nine doubles sets in a road win over the Bearcats.

The San Luis Obispo (7-3, 3-0 PAC 7) doubles team of Lauren Hutkin and Caroline Burke swept 6-0, 6-2, 6-0. The team of Ivee Collins and Annaliese Lippold swept 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, and the team of Fiona Huffaker and Sami Good swept 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 6-0.

Arroyo Grande 18, Atascadero 0

The Eagles’ top two doubles teams swept  to lead Arroyo Grande (6-1, 4-0 PAC 7) past Atascadero. 

The No. 1 doubles team of Joanne Phung and Angelica Gagliano won 6-2, 

6-4, 6-0, and the No. 2 doubles team of Mekayla Landers and Olivia Madison won 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. The two doubles teams are a combined 24-0 in PAC 7 play.

In singles, Melina Rogers swept for the Eagles, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0. 

Santa Maria 9 (84), Nipomo 9 (74)

The Titans’ No. 3 doubles team of Brooke Marangi and Elle Lopez took two of three sets to tie the match, but Santa Maria won on games 84-74 in the LPL match. 

Ashley Jimenez and Monica Guerrero also took two of three doubles matches for the Titans. In singles, Kelly Barrett and Kelly Springford won two of three sets.

Morro Bay 14, Coast Union 4

Tess Badrigian and Skye Schwellenbach each swept in singles to lead the Pirates.

Badrigian won 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, and Schwellenbach won 6-1, 6-0, 6-1. The doubles team of June Janzen and Sarah Keas swept 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, and the team of Camilla Russo and Keely Coxwell swept 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 for Morro Bay (2-5).

BOYS WATER POLO

Arroyo Grande 13, Atascadero 1

Toby Tonascia and Jack Empey each had three goals to lead the Eagles in the home win over the Greyhounds.

Hunt Roberts had two goals, Ronan Paulsen had four saves and Clint Doucette had three saves for Arroyo Grande (2-1, 2-0 PAC 7), which led 10-0 at halftime.

Blake Archabald scored for Atascadero (2-6, 0-2).

San Luis Obispo 16, Pioneer Valley 4

Dan Crozier had seven goals as the Tigers topped the Panthers. 

Ian Bertrando also had three goals, and Tim Maas had two for San Luis Obispo (7-3, 2-0 PAC 7).

GIRLS GOLF

Arroyo Grande 232, Pioneer Valley 260

Tessa Oates was the medalist for the Eagles with a nine-hole 40 on the Oaks Course at Blacklake Golf Course.

Kinsey McBryde shot a 43 for Arroyo Grande, followed by Rachel Harris (45).

Reanna Salazar led the Panthers with a 48.

St Joseph 281, San Luis Obispo 290

Medalist Desiree Gillaspy shot 2-over 39 for the Knights over nine holes as St. Joseph defeated San Luis Obispo at the Santa Maria Country Club. 

Bee Soll led the Tigers (6-1) with a 47. 

Righetti 239, Paso Robles 288

Righetti’s Melanie Johnson shot a 5-over 43 on the back nine at Rancho Maria Golf Course to be the medalist.

Jaclyn Callahan shot a 50 to lead Paso Robles (0-4, 0-2 PAC 7). Violet Lopez shot a 53.

Orcutt Academy 286, Atascadero 297

Maddy Cross was the medalist for the Spartans with a 10-over 45 on the front nine at Chalk Mountain.

Ellie Borba and Iris Maldonado led the Greyhounds (0-3) with each shooting a 55.
