Fill up the lake

TempletonSeptember 20, 2013

Atascadero has done a lot that’s right with the Lake Park, but it is ridiculous to spend $240,000 to promote tourism to a dying lake.

Most people would agree that the lake is the crown jewel of the park. It would be wiser to spend some of that money filling the lake to a level that sustains life, and is pleasing to look at. The amount should be determined by professional biologists and/or the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

And would somebody please tell Tribune columnist Joe Tarica: Carp are not scary monsters, but they resemble the koi featured in Japanese art and, as bottom feeders that eat algae (and goose poop), are beneficial to the lake environment.
