Atascadero to show off restored statue Sunday

The public is invited to the unveiling of Atascadero’s restored Wrestling Bacchantes statue in a special event planned for Sunday.

The artwork, exhibited at the 1904 World’s Fair, left its home at the Sunken Gardens in recent years so it could be restored after rain and vandals damaged it over time.

Now restored, its unveiling is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in a community event that will also include art displays and wine tasting.

The wine tasting, which includes a commemorative glass, costs $15 and is planned for noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Advance wine-tasting tickets for $12 are available at the Colony Park Community Center, 5599 Traffic Way, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
