A driver who failed to brake at the T-intersection of Monterey and Chorro streets on Tuesday was suffering from a medical condition, according to Capt. Chris Staley of the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The woman's Honda CR-V hit a pedestrian and knocked over a crosswalk sign before coming to a halt in a garden at Mission Plaza around 6:12 p.m.

The accident prevented a group of horseback riders from parading down Monterey Street as part of the second half of their California Mission Ride, a 600-mile expedition to all 21 missions between Sonoma and San Diego.

The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries to her leg, said San Luis Obispo police Sgt. Fred Mickel. The pedestrian was “clipped” by the car and appeared to have minor injuries, Mickel said.
