Incoming San Luis Obispo Fire Chief Garret Olson will take the oath of office at 6 p.m. Tuesday night at the City Council meeting in the council chambers.

Police Chief Steve Gesell, who once worked alongside Olson in Scottsdale, Ariz., will conduct the swearing-in ceremony.

Olson was promoted to fire chief when Charlie Hines retired on Sept. 10.

Olson, formerly the fire chief in Scottsdale, had served as the second-in-command to Hines since August 2012. He was selected as fire chief by City Manager Katie Lichtig.
