High hostility

Morro BaySeptember 16, 2013

I watched with dismay the City Council meeting in Morro Bay today, wondering why the level of hostility among those supporting the city attorney and city manager was so very high.

Many of the speakers were verbally abusive, and some were openly threatening. Folks, the city of Morro Bay has financial difficulties, yet these two people have the highest salaries in the whole county. Their salaries are each around $150,000 and, with benefits, probably near $200,000. Morro Bay could pretty much balance its budget by simply hiring a less expensive attorney and city manager.

Why is it hard to understand that a mayor, who is responsible for balancing the budget, would want to do just that?
