The Madonna Inn will once again play host to the Winter Wonder SLO Jiffy Lube Ice Skating Rink in December, with an even larger rink than last year and extended skating times.

According to event director Holly Holliday, the rink hosted 20,000 ice skaters last year, and 2,000 spectators. The large response was one of the reasons Jiffy Lube decided to again sponsor the event, Holliday said.

“It was obviously something that San Luis Obispo and the surrounding areas enjoyed,” she said.

The rink — which will be in the Alex Madonna Expo Center — will be 20 square feet longer this year to help accommodate the crowds, Holliday said.

It will also operate one day longer than it did last year, from Dec. 19 to Jan. 5, and feature two skating sessions per day (one in the morning and one in the evening).

Golden Ticket Season Passes, which for $115 allow skaters 18 sessions they can use however they like, will be available again, Holliday said.

She declined to state how much the event raised last year.
