Volunteers are invited to help clean up Atascadero Creek and sections of the Salinas River as part of an annual cleanup event planned for Sept. 21, according to a city news release.

Regular volunteers as well as team leaders are needed for the effort.

Team leaders will be in charge of a group of volunteers assigned to a specific cleanup section and should have trucks to haul debris.

On cleanup day, all volunteers will meet at the Atascadero City Hall parking lot. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and work begins at 9 a.m. The city asks that volunteers bring gloves, sturdy shoes and a small backpack to keep water in. Refreshments, snacks and lunch will be provided at noon after the cleanup takes place. For more information, call the Atascadero Public Works Department at 470-3148.
