Prep Girls Tennis Roundup: Arroyo Grande shines at California Tennis Classic

The Arroyo Grande High girls tennis team won the Division II pool play at the California Tennis Classic at Clovis North on Friday afternoon.

Singles players Sophie Whittle and Lauren Hayashi, and the doubles team of Angelica Gagliano and Joanne Phung all won all six of their sets.

The Eagles tied Corona Del Mar 3-3, but won on an 8-to-6 tiebreaker in sets. Whittle won 6-0, 6-1, and Hayashi won 6-0, 6-2.

Arroyo Grande beat Liberty 6-0. Whittle won 6-0, 6-0, and Mekayla Landers won 6-4, 6-2. The Eagles finished the day by beating Clovis North 5-1. Hannah Angle won 7-5, 6-4.

Atascadero went 0-3 at the tournament.

Mount Whitney beat the Greyhounds 4-2. The doubles team of Lulu Mack and Sierra Walcott won 6-3, 6-4.

Atascadero then tied Selma 3-3 but lost 55-49 in the games won tiebreaker. Sydney Sima and Maddie Leong won 2-6, 7-5, 13-11.

The Greyhounds (1-3) also tied Pleasant Valley 3-3, but lost the games tiebreaker 54-48.

The doubles team of Hannah Sharon and Ivy Thus won 6-2, 6-4.  

Tigers down Rocklin in girls tennis

San Luis Obispo used a doubles sweep to down Rocklin 12-6 in a home nonleague match.

The Tigers (1-2) had doubles wins from the teams of Lauren Hutkin and Caroline Burke (6-4, 6-1), Annaliest Lippold and Ivee Collins 

(6-4, 6-0), and Fiona Huffaker and Sami Good (6-1, 6-4).

San Luis Obispo also got a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles from Maia Hoffman.
