About 75 veterans attended a breakfast with Rep. Lois Capps on Thursday in Atascadero.

The Democratic congresswoman organized the free event to thank the veterans for their service and to provide information, according to a news release.

Capps opened the event with a speech and then visited each table to chat directly with the veterans during the two-hour event, Capps’ press secretary Chris Meagher said.

The event, held at the Atascadero Elks Lodge, included several stations to connect veterans with resources or benefits, he added.

Capps held a similar breakfast Wednesday in Lompoc that attracted about 50 veterans, Meagher said.

Thursday afternoon, the congresswoman also visited Nipomo High School and Central Coast New Tech High School, where she spoke to students about leadership. She also discussed her bill, the Teaching Children to Save Lives Act, which would assist schools countrywide in teaching students CPR, according to a news release.
