Annual Pier-to-Point Paddle coming up

Kayaks, canoes, paddle boarders start 6-mile ocean trip at San Simeon Pier

Paddlers get underway near San Simeon Pier at the 2010 version of the annual Pier-to-Point Paddle, a benefit for North Coast Ocean Rescue.

North Coast Ocean Rescue and the Cambria Fire Department will host the seventh annual Pier to Point Fun Paddle and Ocean Race on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Racers begin the 6-mile course at San Simeon Pier and make their way via kayaks, surf-skis, paddleboards, stand-up paddlers and outrigger canoes to Leffingwell Landing in Cambria.

The entry fee of $40 includes a barbecue lunch donated by Cavalier Resort in San Simeon and a T-shirt.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with launch time set for 9 a.m. For details, call Mike Casey at 234-3922 or email orchidoutrigger@earthlink.net.

No more than 100 entries will be accepted.

Proceeds benefit the nonprofit, all-volunteer North Coast Ocean Rescue team, part of the Cambria Fire Department.
