SLO's new fire chief will be Garret Olson

The city has named Garret Olson as San Luis Obispo's next fire chief, following the announcement by Chief Charlie Hines that he will retire on Sept. 10.

Olson has been the deputy fire chief in San Luis Obispo since August 2012 and has 23 years of experience in the fire service. Before joining the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department, Olson served as the fire chief of Scottsdale, Ariz. Prior to that, he was the deputy fire chief in Scottsdale for seven years.

Olson’s first day as chief will be Sept. 12. His annual salary will be $150,722.
