Longtime staffer Jeri Rangel is the city of Atascadero’s new director of administrative services, a position vacated by Rachelle Rickard, who became city manager earlier this summer.

Rangel's salary is $115,322 plus benefits, up from $99,620 from when she was the department's deputy director, according to city documents.

The City Council unanimously approved the promotion at its Aug. 13 meeting. She took the position the next day.

Rangel, who had been serving as the department’s acting director since Rickard’s promotion, had been the department’s second-in-command as deputy director since July 2003, according to the city. She was previously a senior accountant and has worked for Atascadero since 2001.

As deputy director, Rangel worked on budgeting, financial planning and reporting, contract review and grants management, among other tasks.

In her new role, she will oversee many of the same duties, as well as lead the department’s approximately $1.1 million budget and its five employees.

Rangel, a Cal Poly graduate, is “a consummate professional, intelligent, knowledgeable, hardworking, dedicated, and just generally an all-around nice person," Rickard said in a statement.

Rangel lives in Atascadero with her husband, Jose, and their four children.
