Bring back fairness

Re: J.B. Thomas’ Aug. 17 letter.

It seems to me that Mr. Thomas wants one-sided news.

I believe that if the Fairness Doctrine (a rule established in 1949 to require that stations that use public broadcast frequencies air all sides of issues; it was abandoned in the 1980s with the proliferation of cable, leaving citizens with little recourse over broadcasters that misuse the public airwaves) was reinstated and applied to print as well as broadcast news, the people would have a far better chance of receiving accurate and balanced news reporting.

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
