Man, 80, who was reported missing in Nipomo is found in Oceano

Salvador "Chava" Garcia was found about 10 p.m. Sunday at a Valero gas station in Oceano, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office. Garcia, who was in good condition, has returned to his family, a Sheriff's Office news release said.

An 80-year-old man from Nipomo was reported missing Sunday, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office said.

Salvador "Chava" Garcia left a residence on Bee Street in Nipomo about 9 a.m. He said he was going to walk to St. Joseph Church, about one mile from the residence, and then to the Swap Meet, sheriff's officials said. It is unknown if Garcia made it to the church or the Swap Meet.

Garcia, who is nicknamed "Chava," is 5 feet 6 inches tall, 180 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black jeans, a red and black flannel shirt, cowboy boots and a white cowboy hat.

Garcia's family says he sometimes gets confused but he has not been diagnosed with any illness such as dementia.

Anyone with information is asked to notify the Sheriff's Office at 781-4500.
