A registered sex offender with a last-known residence in San Luis Obispo was arrested Thursday on suspicion of soliciting sex acts from two minors, San Luis Obispo Police Capt. Keith Storton has confirmed.

Following a weeks-long investigation, the San Luis Obispo Police Department’s detective bureau arrested Michael George Johnson, 49, for violations of the Sex Offender Registration Act after he allegedly attempted to solicit sex from minors and dissuade them from reporting themselves as victims, Storton told The Tribune.

Johnson was a social acquaintance of his two alleged victims, Storton said. The solicitations were made in person, not over the Internet and not on a public street. Storton was unable to provide more details about the incident.

The Megan’s Law sex offender registry shows that in 2010 Johnson was classified as a “high-risk” offender. Previous offenses include two counts of annoying or molesting a child under 18 years of age, the database shows.

According to San Luis Obispo County Jail logs, Johnson was in jail Thursday afternoon in lieu of $100,000 bail. He faces five charges: making contact with a minor with the intent to commit a sex crime; a felony attempt to prevent or dissuade a witness/victim from reporting; failing to provide information and using false information; and two unlisted charges.
