Burglar arrested after breaking into Paso Robles business, police say

A Paso Robles man who allegedly cut open a locked gate to commit burglary at a commercial property in Paso Robles was arrested Thursday morning.

At approximately 3:50 a.m. Thursday, the Paso Robles Police Department received a report of a commercial alarm activation at Matheson Tri-Gas in the 1100 block of Vendels Circle, according to Lt. Ty Lewis.

Officers responded and found that someone had entered the property by cutting open a locked gate. A search of the area led officers to Kevin Smith, 46, of Paso Robles. He was arrested without incident.

Smith was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail for burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and possession of an illegal weapon, a wooden club.

The burglary investigation is ongoing, and the Paso Robles Police Department is asking people with information to call Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP or text “SLOTIPS plus your message” to CRIMES (274637).
