Man arrested after burglarizing home and punching residents, police say

A Grover Beach man is in jail after police say he was caught in the act of robbing a home and beat the residents before fleeing.

At 4:11 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of a burglary in the 600 block of Rockaway Avenue, according to a news release from the Grover Beach Police Department.

A man allegedly had entered an occupied home and was in the process of stealing items when confronted by the residents. The burglar punched them in their faces with his fists before taking their property and fleeing the area, according to Grover Beach police Cmdr. John Peters.

With the help of the residents, police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Michael L. Davis Jr. of Grover Beach and began a search of the city.

Davis was found in the 100 block of North Fourth Street and taken into custody without incident. Evidence related to the crime scene was recovered when he was arrested, police said. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of burglary and robbery. His bond amount was set at $60,000.
