A routine traffic stop Friday morning on Highway 101 north of Highway 46 netted a suspected car thief, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 10 a.m., officers pulled over Juan Garcia Lorenzo, 20, for speeding near Stockdale Road north of Paso Robles. During the stop, officers realized the license plates on the 1997 Honda Accord that Lorenzo was driving had been switched, said Templeton CHP officer David Agredano. Burglary tools were also found in the vehicle.

Lorenzo was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and receiving stolen property, both felonies, as well as driving without a license and other misdemeanors.

Four passengers in the car were released after officers determined they were not involved in the vehicle theft, Agredano said.

Lorenzo is being held at San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
