Can’t support more

San Luis ObispoAugust 8, 2013

If Marvin Sosna (Letters, Aug. 7) is correct when he states that our county’s population can’t support upscale retailers, he has succinctly, if unintentionally, explained why the proposed development on the Dalidio land is a bad idea at this time.

The developers’ answers about who their intended tenants would be make it clear that they know we already have all of the retailers we can support, and they plan to simply steal those tenants from older centers, rather than build anything that would draw people into a different shopping experience.

While competition can be healthy, overbuilding leads to vacant buildings, whether downtown or in existing malls, which creates a very negative image for the city and county.
