Community support

Arroyo GrandeAugust 4, 2013

It is times like this that I am so grateful to live in our community. When I learned that one of my son’s former classmates, Sammy Jeffers, was battling brain cancer, I wanted to do something to help the family with their medical bills. What started as a yard sale at my house quickly grew to a community-wide effort to gather thousands of donations.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised more than $8,000 for Sammy Jeffers! This wouldn’t have been possible without the numerous volunteers who helped organize this effort. I also want to thank Mariner Mortgage for hosting the sale at their business, Grover Beach Tool Rental who loaned us the trailer to transport all donations to the sale site, Starbucks for donating coffee for the bake sale and Foster’s Donuts for giving us a discount on donuts.

Brain cancer is such a serious diagnosis, but miracles do happen! Please keep this precious 8-year-old boy in your prayers. Donations are appreciated and tax-deductible. Send to: Samuel Jeffers Benefit Fund, Stifel Financial, 999 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
