Sammy is ‘single and searching’

pettales@thetribunenews.comAugust 1, 2013

If Sammy could post a personal ad, it might say: ‘If you like to play ball, I like to play fetch.’

‘Single and middle-aged was not where Sammy thought his life was headed. More than 35 dog-years into his relationship, Sammy thought he was set. Now he’s ‘single and searching’ at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter.

“Sammy’s personal ad might read: I’m a 6-year-old Labrador mix looking for a committed relationship. I have fine manners on leash and in the house; I’m fixed, so no worries about unwanted puppies. I love to go on walks, am agood listener, and if you like to play ball, I like to play fetch.

“Sammy might also mention he was in Critter Camp, where he loved the camp kids and did well with the other camp dogs. Another important tidbit: Though one of his parents was probably a Labrador, it’s clear the other was considerably smaller, making Sammy a pint-sized Lab mix who should weigh about 40 pounds. Which brings up another point.

“Because of his emotional upheaval, Sammy has sought solace in food and now needs to lose a few pounds. Fortunately, once adopted, the weight — with a simple diet of love and exercise — will melt away.

“And to watch Sammy play fetch, go to “The shelter volunteers love Sammy, so half of his adoption fee has been paid. But, as with all good relationships, the heart is where to start, and Sammy’s is pure gold.”
