Incongruities

Arroyo GrandeJuly 31, 2013

We currently have several incongruities being reported in the media. First, it is reported that Congress’ approval rating is down to 12 percent, yet in the 2012 election, 90 percent of incumbents were re-elected.

Barack Obama has one white parent and one black parent and is referred to as our “first black president,” yet George Zimmerman, who has one white parent and one Latino parent, is referred to as a “white neighborhood watchperson.”

We read that millions of Americans suffer food insecurity, yet one of our major health problems is widespread obesity.

Some media reports that crime rates would come down if only we had more stringent firearm laws, but Chicago, which has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, had more than 500 murders last year.

Apparently the media is content to disseminate “news” without any regard to believability.

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
