For 39 days, Nelson Kiefert has skateboarded across three states to raise money for a skatepark in his hometown of Shiprock, N.M., on the Navajo reservation.

“It’s really nice to know there are good people out there,” Kiefert said Monday as he made a pit stop in San Luis Obispo on his five-state tour. “This town, from what I’ve seen, is a whole lot better than where I come from.”

With nothing more than his skateboard and a backpack carrying provisions such as a mobile hotspot and his iPod, Kiefert, 20, has raised approximately $4,700 in donations — nearly half of his $10,000 goal.

He will now head north toward Pebble Beach before ultimately ending up in Washington.

Kiefert can be reached by phone at 505-427-6384, or online via his Facebook page (All or Nothing Sk8 Tour) and website ( Donations can be sent through PayPal to or his Bank of America account: 439005071595.
