Unfriendly move

San Luis ObispoJuly 29, 2013

We have lived and owned a home in San Luis Obispo for 26 years. As dog owners, we often went to our local school field after 5 p.m. to let our dog play. This social time for pets and people provided an opportunity for my family to get to know neighbors in our area. We found it a very positive community builder. The dog owners were very vigilant in picking up after their dogs and never intruded on any school or sport functions. It was used for pets only when not in use by students.

Recently, the police received a complaint and came to give a verbal warning. Today, a sign was posted indicating any dog would be impounded if found on the field.

We understand the city has ordinances and the public school district may have property use issues, but there must be a greener way to avoid having to drive to the one dog park in town. For a town known for being friendly, it isn’t very dog friendly.
