A 29-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after he came back to a Paso Robles liquor store where he had allegedly stolen a purse from an employee's vehicle the previous day.

A woman told police at 3:45 p.m. Monday that she had parked at Cregor's Market at 611 Spring St. and left her purse inside her locked vehicle while she went to work. She said she returned to her car about three hours later and found the purse missing, along with evidence that someone had forced open a window to get to it.

The woman reviewed surveillance cameras and was able to watch the crime as it occurred, according to a press release from the Paso Robles Police Department. A police officer was then able to use images of the suspect to try to find him.

At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, an employee at the market called police to say the suspect was inside the business. Officer arrived and arrested the man, identified as Joseph Oliver Godfrey, on suspicion of vehicle burglary. He was taken to County Jail, where bail was set at $20,000.
