Hardly ‘foot-dragging’

Executive Committee, Santa Lucia Chapter of the Sierra ClubJuly 22, 2013

We have just one correction to your otherwise accurate editorial July 14 supporting the dust rule for the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area and condemning the crusade that Grover Beach Mayor Debbie Peterson is leading to repeal it.

You wrote that “Following some initial foot-dragging, State Parks is going ahead with the work it needs to do to comply with the dust rule.”

While State Parks is doing the preliminary permit work that it is required to do, it has stated its intention to file an appeal of the recent Superior Court decision that denied its attempt to strike down the rule. Complying while simultaneously seeking to deny the authority of the Air Pollution Control District and suing to overturn the rule one is allegedly complying with does not constitute compliance in our book, and is a long way past “foot-dragging.”
