Owenby helps Blues win thriller against Oaks

San Luis Obispo closer strikes out four in two scoreless innings in 6-5 road victory over Conejo

San Luis Obispo Blues closer Drake Owenby struck out four batters in two scoreless innings to pick up the save in a 6-5 road win over the Conejo Oaks on Monday in summer collegiate baseball.

The Blues (33-13, 18-11 California Collegiate League) were led by Mike Pritchard, who went 3 for 5 with an RBI, and Will Maddox was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Andrew Lee went 2 for 4 and scored a run for the Blues.

Grayson Long started Monday’s game, throwing six innings while giving up two earned runs, striking out four for the win.

The Blues scored five runs in the fifth inning and led 6-2, but the Oaks scored two in the eighth to pull within 6-5. Owenby allowed just one hit in his save.

Owenby is one of 11 players the Blues will send to the CCL All-Star Game set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Major League Baseball Academy in Compton. Fox Sports Net Prime Ticket will televise the game.

San Luis Obispo came into the week as the nation’s 11th-ranked team in summer collegiate baseball, according to the website PerfectGame.org.
