A van fire at about 1:38 p.m. Sunday, July 7, on Windsor Boulevard near Moonstone Beach Drive was the biggest emergency reported to fire crews over the long Fourth of July weekend.

They said it had otherwise been a remarkably quiet period. Fire Chief Mark Miller said the blaze, which consumed the van and sent up plumes of thick smoke, likely was triggered by a backfiring engine.
