Affordable housing

President, League of Women Voters of San Luis Obispo CountyJuly 10, 2013

The League of Women Voters commends The Tribune for its editorial reminding us of the need for affordable workforce housing in our county (“County should get back to work on affordable housing,” July 7).

We agree that it would be detrimental to our local economy and harmful to our local workforce if housing prices were to reach pre-recession levels and no provisions were made for affordable housing. We supported the 2008 ordinance that required developers in unincorporated areas to include affordable housing in their projects or pay a fee to be used to build affordable housing elsewhere. We join The Tribune in urging the Board of Supervisors to speed up the implementation of the ordinance so that San Luis Obispo County doesn’t again become one of the least affordable places to live in the nation.

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
