Local law enforcement agencies arrested more than 40 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the Independence Day weekend.

Officers with nine county law enforcement agencies made 44 drunk-driving arrests between 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and midnight Sunday, according to Officer Robert Cudworth of the San Luis Obispo Police Department. They also reported two drunk driving-related traffic collisions that resulted in injuries.

Data from last year’s Independence Day holiday was not available for comparison, Cudworth said.

Law enforcement officials plan to conduct more anti-drunk driving efforts this summer during an 18-day period ending with Labor Day weekend.
