Paso Robles police have identified the bicyclist hit by a car last week on Highway 46 East near Jardine Road as Richard Cortez, Jr., 55, of Paso Robles.

Cortez remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, said Lt. Tim Murphy of the Paso Robles Police Department. He would not identify the hospital where the man is being treated.

Cortez was struck around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday by a car driven by Fresno resident Mary Arroyo, 65, as he entered the eastbound traffic lanes, according to police.

Arroyo, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry, was not injured. The cause of the collision was under investigation, although police said at the time that it did not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved.
