Summer Collegiate Baseball: San Luis Obispo Blues pound Menlo Park Legends in Rawlings Cup to reach final

The San Luis Obispo Blues’ summer collegiate baseball team downed the Menlo Park Legends 11-2 on Saturday to reach today’s championship game of the Rawlings Cup.

The Blues (29-8) won the Northern bracket of the Rawlings tournament and will face the Southern bracket winner at 2 p.m. today in Santa Barbara in the championship game.

The winner of today’s game re eives an automatic invitation to the Summer Collegiate World Series in August in Wichita, Kan. The California Collegiate League champion also received an automatic berth in the national tournament.

In Saturday’s game at SLO Stadium, the Blues blew the game open early with a five-run third inning for an early 6-0 lead.

Aaron Attaway led San Luis Obispo’s 14-hit attack as he was 3 for 5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. Kyle Johnson was 3 for 4 and scored three runs, and Will Mattox, Blake Allemand and Michael Pritchard all added two hits. Maddox and Pritchard both scored twice.

San Luis Obispo’s Jordan Smith allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), three walks and struck out two in six innings to earn the win.

East L.A. Dodgers 7, North County Indians 3

East L.A. scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally past the Indians at Vineyard Athletic Park in Templeton.

Connor O’Hare, Brett Clark and Mac Stuart each doubled for North County, which fell to 16-8 overall.
