Remembering Paul Teixeira

Hundreds of local residents attended services Wednesday in honor of 4th District Supervisor Paul Teixeira, who died June 26 of a heart attack.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in Nipomo on Wednesday morning, followed by a private graveside burial and a public celebration and reception at the Alex Madonna Expo Center in San Luis Obispo.

The events center was filled with well-wishers Wednesday afternoon, and a display was set up that included hats, Hawaiian shirts, awards Teixeira had received and family photos. Attendees had an option to sign polished stones or multicolored cards as a tribute to Teixeira.

Teixeira, 57, was elected to represent parts of the South County in 2010. He was deeply committed to community service, and he served on the county Parks Commission and the Lucia Mar Unified School District board.

He lived more than 45 years in San Luis Obispo County, where he and his wife, Deanna, have raised five children.
