Summer Collegiate Baseball Roundup: SLO Blues win before record crowd of 2,205

The San Luis Obispo Blues won 4-3 against the Bakersfield Sound on a record night for attendance at SLO Stadium in the summer collegiate baseball game Wednesday. 

Mike Pritchard went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the win in San Luis Obispo’s first game of its Rawlings Cup tournament this week. 

The Blues (27-8, 14-7 California Collegiate League North) drew 2,205 as they celebrated the victory with a post-game fireworks show. 

San Luis Obispo starter Kyle Johnson gave up one earned run and struck out eight in five innings. Jordan Smith pitched two innings in relief, striking out three for the win. 

Pritchard had the go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning to put San Luis Obispo ahead 4-3, driving in Will Maddox, who bunted his way on. 

North County Indians 15, ATH Academy 6 

The Indians took advantage of 12 walks by ATH Academy to win in a blowout at home. 

Cal Poly incoming freshman Kevin Morgan went 3 for 5 with three doubles and six RBI, and San Luis Obispo High grad Garrett Giovannelli went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI. 

The Indians (15-7) scored six runs in the eighth inning. 

Arroyo Grande grad Kyle Brown got the win, pitching five innings and allowed six runs, five earned. Alex Fagalde threw four scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out six.
