A cyclist is in critical condition after being hit by a car Wednesday morning west of Jardine Road on Highway 46 East.

The 55-year old cyclist was struck around 6:30 a.m. by a car driven by Fresno resident Mary Arroyo, 65, as he entered the eastbound traffic lanes, according to the Paso Robles Police Department.

The cyclist, who is not being identified pending notification of his family, was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to a local hospital with major injuries, police said.

Arroyo, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry was not injured. The cause of the collision is under investigation, although police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved.
