Sheriff's Office identifies body found in the water at Montana de Oro

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the body found in the water at Montana de Oro State Park last week was Cal Poly student Stefan Wagner.

Wagner, 21, was reported missing and presumed dead June 20.

Wagner’s body was discovered floating in the water near Spooner's Cove in Montana de Oro State Park on June 28, close to where he disappeared.

People walking in the area reported the body to State Parks rangers at 10:15 a.m. Cal Fire responded to the scene and recovered the body.

An autopsy will be done today, according to the county Sheriff’s Office. A toxicology report is expected to take three to four weeks.
