The body of an adult male was discovered floating in the water near Spooner’s Cove in Montaña de Oro State Park on Friday near where a Cal Poly student went missing June 20, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

People walking in the area reported the body to State Parks rangers at 10:15 a.m. Cal Fire responded to the scene and recovered the body.

The body was found in the same area where Cal Poly student Stefan Wagner was reported missing and presumed dead June 20.

Authorities have not identified the body or made a connection between the body and the missing student.

An autopsy is planned for next week.
